On Sunday 22 November 2020 in Mogadishu launching ceremony held for the establishment of Somali disability network. The event took place in Peace hotel. Participated more than one hundred persons from the PWDs persons wit disabilities, DPOs the disabled people organizations and the civil society and member from the government
The speakers addressed the story of the Somali disability people and their origination which has started decades ago. The participants realised the current situation of the PWDs and DPOs where there laws and legislation protecting their right and role in the social and policy
This network came in the right time where Somali federal government signed and ratified the CRPD which introduced the country new obligation to the civil society and government for the protection, care and development the disability people and their families in Somalia.
Mr. Abdullahi Husseon The chairperson of the disability network told the participants to take care of the network which need more input from the PWDs and DPOs. With consultation, guide and correction we can achieve more in the short time and the long time
Mr. Osman The chairperson of Somalia non state actors told to the participants they found the value and the role of the disability people and DPOs for their work. They will give priority from now on. He added I recommend you stand up your rights and unite for the work ahead.
Mr. Ahmed Hassan Warsame The director of the Banadir region administration told the media the importance of the unity for the people. We can achieve more if we are united , any group interested to join the network should hosted and accepted with cooperation for future disability people and organization. He added the international donors should help the network and member organizations for their program and projects .
This is not the fisrt network for the disability people and their organization. But ist the largest that host more than 15 DPOs active operational in the country and partner with variety donors some of them. The network is expecting to make cooperation and partnership with donors in the short time and long time for assessment, capacity building and fund raising to the narrow members
