Statement of Concern by the Somali Disability Network (SDN

by admin

The Somali Disability Network (SDN), a coalition of 15 organizations in Somalia, expresses its deep concern regarding the arrest and continued detention of the Chairperson of the East African Civil Society Organizations’ Forum (EACSOF), Dr. Sarah Bereeti.

We are particularly troubled by the court’s decision to extend her remand while awaiting further court proceedings. This action raises serious concerns about the protection of civic space, human rights, and the freedom of civil society actors in the East African region.

The civil society organizations of East Africa are united in sending a strong message to the state authorities, calling for the immediate release of Dr. Sarah Bereeti and the restoration of her freedom without conditions.

SDN stands in solidarity with EACSOF and all civil society organizations across the region. We share the deep sadness and concern caused by the detention of Dr. Sarah Bereeti and reaffirm our commitment to defending human rights, justice, and civic freedoms.
