The first Somalia forum for the PWDs and DPOs in Mogadishu

The first forum for the Somalia disabled people organizations is  opened in Mogadishu on Saturday  03 June 2023 at Falco Inn. Invited member of the CSOs, PWDs, Local Authority, Federal States and federal government institutions.  The conference is participated by 45 persons  repressing  variety backgrounds  in the society mostly from  the PWDs the lead of the conference

The conference is organized by SDN Somali Disability Network  which worked disability inclusion advocacy in Somalia. With partnership of UNSOM HRPG one of the main support for the CRPD implementation advocacy in Somalia.  Somalia signed and joined the CRPD state on August 2029 since that obligations come on the ground to the CSOs, international donors and government of Somalia.

Members  of the PWDs  mostly the activist participated the forum to share  their input the discussion and debate aimed to found and analysed  the situation of the PWDs and their organization in the  Somalia.  Specifically the  barrier attitudinal and environmental  which are the root cause of disability in the society. Disability is defined in number 1.2 Billion in the world and 20% of Somalia society  nearly 3.4 million people out of 17 million.

The number of the DPOs based  in Somalia are  nearly dozens  mostly based in Mogadishu.  Unfortunately the operation figure out of this number is very little nearly one dozen who are working self organized and funded program rather national and international partnership for program support. International humanitarian principles and law enforce the inclusion of all parties of the nations and their CSOs including the DPOs.

In the forum three panels are organised  to discuss the participants with their contribution and ideas. Where the coordination team work the draft, recording and enteroperation of the questions and answers as well as the analysis made in the  panels.  The team capture the questions and the answers in the decision that mostly focused the disability inclusion barriers and solution of the problems against the PWDs  in the society and system.

The objectives of the conference

To focus on the situation of the Somalia PWDs the children, youth and adult people who have no rights and role in the society.  Through panel discussion the debate, analysis, argument and press statement of the conference.

1. The barrier in front of the PWDs for the social the educational, health care, employment and socioeconomic as well as human rights protection and humanitarian aid role
2. The Barrier in front of the PWDs as individual or groups for the participation of the socioeconomic, investment, cooperative, Grants  and loans for the development of the society including the PWDs and member of their families in Somalia.   The partnership and support the DPOs and Schools  for the IE inclusive education.
3. The barrier in from of the PWDs for political participation and election. As well as the  implementation of laws the CRC, CRPD  and the establishment new legislations Disability Act, Disability Policy, Strategic plan and National disability census.
