One 27 December 2025 The National Anti-FGM Bill has been passed by the Parliament and signed into law by the President of Southwest Somalia, H.E. Mr. Abdiasis Hassan Mohamed Laftagareen. H.E. Mrs. Shamsa Mohamed Yarow, Minister of Women and Human Rights, has called on all citizens, institutions, and agencies to ensure the enforcement of the Anti-Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) Law, which legally applies to all areas under the territories of Southwest State.
This is a landmark achievement for the dignity and safety of Somali girls, many of whom fall victim to FGM every year. Some even lose their lives due to the practice, which also affects their health and marriage prospects. The law represents a major step toward protecting innocent young girls from this harmful tradition.
SDN is very much appreciated this act for the hope of the young girls in the areas of |South West Somalia State. This will safe young girls including disabled people girls in the south West Somalia regions.
