The conference brought together a diverse range of stakeholders, including Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), Organizations of Persons with Disabilities (OPDs/DPOs), Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), international agencies, government ministries, legislators, politicians, and representatives from the Federal Government and Federal Member States.
During the two-day consultation, participants engaged in keynote speeches, panel discussions, technical presentations, group work, and interactive question-and-answer sessions. Key speeches were delivered by representatives of the Ministry of Women and Human Rights, the National Disability Agency (NDA), the Somali Disability Network (SDN), and disability representatives from Banadir, Puntland, Hirshabelle, Galmudug, and the Somali National Disability Council.
The discussions focused on the barriers facing persons with disabilities in education, healthcare, employment, humanitarian response, accessibility, and participation in public life. Participants shared experiences, identified priority challenges, and proposed practical solutions.
The conference concluded with key findings and a communiqué containing recommendations to strengthen disability inclusion, advance the implementation of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD), and ensure the meaningful participation of PWDs and OPDs in national development, humanitarian action, and public decision-making.
